Bail Bond Associations

Dan
LA CA

I am going through your course soon. How beneficial is joining the US Bail Bond Association and who is Billy Wells? Is he reputable?
Thank you
Dan

Hi Dan,

I hope all is well one your end, weren't you somewhere in ID last time we wrote?

Though I understand your need to get reliable and unbiased opinions, and as much as I would like to share my opinion, I really try and make a habit of not speaking ill of others; it's the most professional way I can handle myself.

Take care.

Warmest Regards,

Yes, I was. I have been a stuntman in LA for 12 years and am leaving the business to fly floatplanes in Idaho/Alaska. I have always wanted to do Bond recovery work, and now have the time to commit fully. I understand about opinions on others, thank you. So is there a Bondsman Association I should join?

Dan

I thought I remembered that you were somewhere else.

Kind of a Colt Seavers/Fall Guy thing eh?

Present company excluded (of course)- my honest opinion regarding most associations is that there are a TON of them with no clear and direct purpose. Very few, if any will actually come through on their ability to effect change in the industry or provide quality networking opportunities.

There is always a lot of talk about creating a unified association but ultimately too many egos get involved- sort of like the whole "my Kung Fu is better than yours..." plot line from Saturday morning Black Belt Theater. Most often you must pay for the training, then pay again for membership- and some of the training is REALLY bad, incomplete, or nothing more than a collection of war stories. I've invested in a lot of the available programs as a bit of "competitive intelligence" thinking that if I learned at least one thing of which I was unaware- then it might be worth it; (besides, it's all tax deductible for me anyway) I was a little embarrassed for some of the authors.

There are a few better places to apply yourself rather than joining an association right away- for instance, the Bail Recovery newsgroup on Yahoo is probably the largest gathering of WORKING investigators on the internet and it's free to join.

I have to get out of the office- I have some defendants who need rides back to their new homes this afternoon.

I'll get back to any additional questions you might have this evening.
