I actually want to start a Bail Bond company in the State of Maine, but I have no idea how to go about it. I have watched so many people sit endlessly in jail and not be able to post bail. I don't even begin to know where to start research on how to start a company, find bail recovery officers, or even where to look for where the state laws lie in Maine concerning Bail Bonds companies in the first place. If it is possible, could you maybe tell me where to start? I have researched the state of Maine and there is only one bail bond company in it and they don't do bail bonds unless the bail is set at 10,000 or more. And he wouldn't take the time to talk to me, his competition as he put it.

Try starting with your county's Sheriff's Department, they are the ones who interface most with the bondsmen. I have a mailing list that has 43 active bail bond companies in ME.
